Summertime Activities in the Chicago Suburbs

When the sun is shining and the air is warm, you take advantage of the weather and spend time outdoors! After a long Chicago winter, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of summertime. Grab your friends and family and get out of the house while enjoying these activities.

Shopping on Third Street

If you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon, step right into the heart of downtown Geneva and explore a quaint street lined with shops and restaurants. Have a seat at one of the outdoor patios, listen to some live music and be sure to stop by Graham’s for some ice cream to cool off.

Pottawatomie Park

Whether you’re looking to hang out by the pool, picnic under the trees or even play a quick round of golf, Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles has it all. Located right on the Fox River, Pottawatomie is a gorgeous place to soak in the sun. If you’re wanting to get out on the river, you can even rent a paddle boat and float along the shore.

Frisbee Golf at Wheeler Park

All you need is a few frisbees and the whole family for a fun round of disc golf! This scenic 18 hole course is located in the hooded hills of Geneva. No matter your age or experience level, this game will bring everyone together.

Biking on the Great Western Trail

Get some exercise while biking along the 17-mile track from St. Charles to Sycamore. Along the Great Western Trail, you’ll run into small streams, trees that will provide shade along your journey and one-of-a-kind Kane County scenery.

Farmer’s Markets

On summer weekends, both St. Charles and Geneva host unique Farmer’s Markets. Located in the parking lot at the Metra Station in downtown Geneva, The French Market is held every Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm and offers fresh produce, baked goods and special gifts. St. Charles’ Farmer’s Market is on Friday’s from 8 am to 1 pm just off of Main Street. Shop local, artisanal items and leave with something special!
